Medication Administration

Core of Knowledge:  6 hours Health, Safety, Nutrition Please bring a bagged lunch. The class will not break for lunch.  This will be a working lunch.  Mandated MSDE/OCC training to learn all aspects of safely administering medication in your child care setting.  Suitable for those serving children of all ages.    The participants per class is limited to 15.    This course currently does not expire and can transfer to any center/home in the State of Maryland.

Messing Around with Science

Messing Around with Science We all like to get a little messy every now and then – especially kids! Children learn best when they can actually touch, see, smell, taste, hear, and manipulate the materials in the world.  They are filled with wonder and curiosity about the world around them.  This workshop will provide ideas and activities for children to use their senses to discover and explore.   Core of Knowledge:  3 hours Curriculum

Maryland EXCELS: Level 3: The Benefits of Aiming for Higher Quality

In this workshop participants will analyze the documentation needed for level 3 in each of the five content areas, explore the process of self-assessment and design an effective program improvement plan. Participants will also evaluate the benefits of Tiered Reimbursement.

You've Got a Friend: Teaching Friendship Skills

Throughout the day children learn to share and solve problems and collaborate.  They also build friendships that promote positive social and emotional development.  These skills don’t all come naturally, some children have difficulty interacting with peers.  This workshop uses CSEFEL based tools and strategies to help providers teach appropriate social skills and create opportunities for children to practice these skills.    Core of Knowledge:  1 hour Child Development and 2 hours Curriculum

During this training, participants will explore how they can use common daily activities to extend and promote pre-literacy skills and encourage the development of a positive self-image. Participants will create a plan to incorporate engaging art, music & movement, and storytelling activities that will strengthen pre-literacy skills and provide all children with the opportunity to express themselves in a free and meaningful manner.

The Early Learning Assessment (ELA) is a formative assessment tool intended for use by early childhood educators of children 3 to 6 years of age. It is an ongoing process of observations performed by the educator to gather information on how a child is developing over time.

Maryland EXCELS: Getting to Level 2

In this workshop participants will become familiar with Maryland EXCELS Standards and will learn how to interpret them. Participants will also learn how to meet level 2 criteria.

Developmentally Appropriate Practice for Infants and Toddlers

Participants will be able to define “developmentally appropriate practice” and describe how this term applies to infant and toddler care. Participants will be able to plan daily routines and experiences (curriculum) that support infant and toddler development throughout the day.
